Economic Development and Opportunity
As a Stafford County business owner, I understand the characteristics and policies which will attract businesses that will provide high quality jobs for the citizens of Stafford County.
- Create jobs by adopting business friendly policies
- Reduce residential taxes by shifting tax burden to new businesses
- Improve resident’s quality of life by creating jobs here in Stafford so residents don’t have to commute to northern Virginia
-
Strengthen and improve the Board’s “Open for Business” initiative
Sound Fiscal Management
My business has grown successfully with no long-term debt by creating a financial plan, measuring progress and adjusting to the economic realities around us. We need the same financial discipline in Stafford County.
- Make sure every tax dollar is spent wisely and with intention and accountability
- Strive for a AAA bond rating to reduce debt service payments
- Protect reserve funds to provide a strong foundation for future stability
- Investigate every line item of the budget to ensure taxpayers are getting the best value from our local government
Public Safety
As a Marine, I learned firsthand the sacrifices our public servants make. I also learned the importance of having the right people and tools to get the job done right.
- Ensure law enforcement, fire and rescue have the proper tools and staffing to perform their duties
- Continue to strengthen funding for preventive investments such as the DARE and Gang Prevention programs
- As we continue to grow, monitor the mix of career and volunteer fire and rescue personnel to ensure we are respecting and honoring the service of Stafford’s many volunteers while increasing the services we provide to our growing county
Advocate for Stafford County Schools
As a father of children in Stafford County Schools, it is very important to me that we do everything possible to ensure our schools are the best.
- Work with the School Board to ensure our schools are properly funded to achieve the highest academic performance possible
- Ensure school budgets focus on spending money in the classroom where resources directly benefit the children and teachers most
- Plan ahead for future capital improvement projects such as the rebuild of Stafford High School and the renovation of our aging elementary schools
Accommodate Future Growth While Preserving Stafford’s Character
As a neighbor to the boyhood home of George Washington and the Rappahannock River, I want to guide future growth to accommodate inevitable population expansion while protecting the treasures and the rural character of our community in the George Washington District.
- Implement smart growth policies that protect rural undeveloped land while accommodating the future growth of the county
- Respect personal property rights
- Protect farmland from overly burdensome regulations that do little to protect the environment
Traffic and Quality of Life
As a user of the Falmouth intersection, I experience the daily hassle and delays which Falmouth has become famous for.
- Work with VDOT and the local community to ensure future improvements to the interchange are effective and respectful of the historic nature of Falmouth
- Be mindful of future growth and its traffic consequences to prevent traffic bottlenecks in other parts of the district as future growth is accommodated
- Find ways to free up traffic flow in trouble spots to allow public safety equipment to improve service delivery times
- Work with the Parks and Recreation Department to optimize the County’s resources making Stafford a great place to raise a family and to improve the Quality of Life for our families
Responsive and Open Public Service
As Chairman of the Stafford County Telecommunications Committee, I enjoy the interaction I have with citizens of the county as we work to help them resolve issues related to cable and broadband access. Direct and open interaction with citizens is the best way to represent citizen interests at the county level.
- Be accessible to citizens
- Be responsive to citizens
- Use multiple communications methods including phone, e-mail and Internet to stay connected to the citizens of the district and keep them up to speed on local issues
- Conduct town hall meetings to receive input on issues before the Board of Supervisors ensuring the people’s will is heard
